just come along and listen to members reciting a selection of poetry around the theme of
the month. Who knows, you may rekindle an old interest or discover a new one.

The Book Club
Last months book, “We were the Lucky Ones”, had mixed reviews, but generally thought
worth reading. Next month we are reading “Amongst Women” by John McGahern. Set in
Ireland just after the war for independence, Moran, who was an officer in the war, is now a
widower with five children living on a small farm, he keeps control by keeping his family
close but as the children grow older Moran struggles to find a balance between love and
tyranny.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 3rd November.

Garstang Ukulele Group
As the days grow cooler and the nights draw in memories of those glorious, warm, summer
days fade away. Autumn is just around the corner – the season of change, harvest time and
golden hues.
Instead of hibernating away our ukulele group strides into Autumn, using it as a valuable
time to reflect on what has gone before and embrace what is to come.
The next couple of months see us continuing to visit old friends, making new ones and
entertaining audiences with our wide and varied repertoire. Actively supporting our
community and raising funds for all the charities we support is the bedrock of what we do.
We are busy working on new songs to ensure that wherever we play or whoever we play for,
we can guarantee a unique, bespoke playlist for our audiences. Finding new tunes to play
keeps us energised, and constantly developing our skill set. Every new song we add brings a
fresh shape to our performances, which means that no two performances are ever quite the
same.
If you have never met us before why not find out just how well we can add some fun to
your celebrations. As ever, you can contact any member of our group, message us on our Facebook page, email
Trevor Philips at: mail@trevorphillips.co.uk or call 01995 600378

Garstang Musical Productions
From the Bake Off kitchen to the Christmas lights…
What a year it has been for Garstang Musical Productions!
Following the fantastic success of The Great British Bake Off The Musical, we’re swapping
cakes and cupcakes for carols, candlelight and plenty of Christmas cheer.
We’re delighted to be bringing some festive music to our local community throughout
December, with three very special events.
Monday 7th December – Christmas Carols at Garstang Arts Centre to open up the fantastic
Victorian Evening.
We’ll be getting into the Christmas spirit with an evening of traditional carols and festive
favourites at the Arts Centre. A lovely way to start the Christmas season with friends, family
and fellow GMP supporters. This is a ticket free event, just come along.
Saturday 12th December – Christmas visits to our local care homes
We’re thrilled to be returning to Bowgreave Rise and Meadow Croft Care Homes, where
we’ll be entertaining residents with a selection of Christmas songs and carols. It’s always a
privilege to share our music with the local community, and we’re looking forward to bringing
some festive cheer to the residents.
And then… the big one!
Tuesday 15th December Christmas by Candlelight
St Mary and St Michael’s Church, Garstang.
Join us for a beautiful and atmospheric Christmas concert, performed in the magical glow of
candlelight.
The evening will feature a wonderful mix of traditional carols, much-loved Christmas songs
and festive favourites, all within the stunning surroundings of the church.
And because it wouldn’t be Christmas without a little indulgence, your evening will include
a mince pie and a festive tipple too.
It promises to be a truly special way to celebrate the season, music, candlelight, Christmas
and good company all wrapped up together.
Tickets are available via our Garstang Musical Productions Facebook page, as usual, or by
contacting us at: garstangmusicalproductions@hotmail.com
We’d love you to join us and make some more wonderful GMP memories this Christmas.
