What’s on in June

Exhibitions
The June exhibition features Julie Ann Maguire who works primarily in colour pencil.
She brings a rare sensitivity to her subjects and her Silver Signature Status with the UK
Colour Pencil Society reflects both her technical mastery and her commitment to
elevating the medium beyond traditional expectations. Julie’s exhibition opens

Garstang Ukulele Group
It is lovely to see Garstang at its glorious best. Again the bloomers have ensured a flowered filled town ready to embrace summer. In our own way, as a group, we are also gearing up for a summer of festivities, festivals, parties and fun.
Our Summer Season was launched at Littlewood Manor Care Home with a wonderful, happy visit to one of our favourite places. This was swiftly followed by another of our very regular visits to Laurel Bank in Lancaster. These visits are always joyous occasions for us, staff and residents. I don’t really know how or why but when you put these three ingredients together magic seems to happen in.
A group of our players were delighted to be asked to perform at one of our member’s birthday party. A specially requested playlist was extremely well delivered to very warm applause from the audience and to the immense satisfaction of the birthday girl herself.
If you have never met us before why not find out just how well we can add some fun to your celebrations.
As ever, you can contact any member of our group, message us on our Facebook page, email Trevor Philips at mail@trevorphillips.co.uk or call 01995600378

The Book Club
Our last book, “The Offing” was another popular choice for the members. The next club book is
“A Witch Hunt in Whitby” by Helen Cox, one of a series featuring Private Investigator Kitt Hartley. A serial vampire killer is on the loose, so called because the victims are drained of blood and have two red marks on their neck. The front door of each victim is painted with a large purple V eleven days before the murder, so can they catch the killer before it’s too late.

Garstang Musical Productions
With our first concert of the year now complete, we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone in the community for the fantastic support we received. Both performances were completely sold out, which means the world to all of our past and present members.
Our 40th birthday celebrations are continuing in style, and rehearsals are now well underway for this year’s production of The Great British Bake Off Musical. This show is perfect for Garstang, warm, funny and feel good, packed with catchy songs, larger than life characters, and all the drama of the famous baking tent. Expect plenty of laughs, a few soggy bottoms, and a delightful celebration of friendship, competition and cake!
We have already received a number of enquiries about tickets, which will be going on sale soon via our Facebook page and website. As always, we will also be holding a couple of pop-up box offices at the Arts Centre, with dates advertised both here in the Green Book and online.
So keep your eyes “peeled” as this is one show that promises to be the “icing on the cake” of our 40th anniversary celebrations!
