What’s on in April

GARSTANG ARTS CENTRE

Exhibition

Jayne Lancaster will be exhibiting her beautiful drawings & illustrations depicting livestock and rural wildlife from Tuesday 9th April to Thursday 2nd May.  Sketching from life & observation of the animals in their natural environment is essential to her work and this is combined with larger scale studio creations where she uses a variety of media, predominantly pen and ink with watercolour & pastel.  www.jaynelancaster.wordpress.com.

Ukulele Soup
We’ve heard some odd reasons for missing rehearsals, but last month we had a first when Anne had to be in Blackburn Cathedral as a backing singer for Russell Watson – go Anne, go.
But she will return to the less dizzy heights of Bushell House in Goosnargh and the Salvation Army in Blackpool. If you’ve not heard Anne singing, then you should try to make one of our public events when she usually performs Femme Fatale, originally sung by Nico on the Velvet Underground’s debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico.

The Book Club
After another good meeting we all received our next library loan ‘The Great Circle’ by Maggie Shipstead. This is a fictional story of an aspiring young female pilot who wants to navigate the globe. A young actress who plays her in a film becomes fascinated by her journey and what ultimately happened to her.
Our next meeting is on April 2nd at 10.30 in The Arts Centre.

The John Towers Big Band
We’ve just performed our third monthly Friday concert at Winmarleigh Village Hall and the Band was on top form. I’m pleased to say that the audience is getting bigger each time and they were very appreciative.
We will be there again on Friday 19th April starting at 8pm so come along, entrance is free and there’s a bar and hot snacks.
The previous week on 12th April we will be performing once again at St Thomas Church Hall in Garstang. We played to a full house there this time last year and ticket sales for this concert are selling well. The entrance fee of £7 includes refreshments and all proceeds are in aid of Church funds.
We hope to see you at one (or both) of these concerts but in the meantime don’t forget that we rehearse every Friday night at The Arts Centre in Garstang and visitors are welcome.
