Garstang Ukulele Group

The WI season has begun and these are usually really good gigs. Not only do we get to play to appreciative audiences, we usually get fed as well. We played Calder Vale before Christmas and in March we played Barton and Wrea Green. So if you’ve missed us in the Hotpot, please ring me on 01995 604621.

Bookings are picking up and we will have our first care home gig in over 2 years on the 3rd June. It’s good to be getting back, but we are still being careful.

Have a look at our website at www.garstangukulelegroup.co.uk to see where we are playing. Several of our events are public and it would be lovely to see you all.

Book Club

We were very fortunate at our March meeting as we had a visit from local author David Birtwistle. We had been circulating his book ‘Oonny Road Up’, short stories based in East Lancashire. David was as interesting to listen to as his book was to read! We all enjoyed the meeting. We also discussed ‘The Familiars’, a book about the Lancashire witches. This promoted views and discussion about witches at the time and why many were punished. A few people read or were reading Books by Mrs Gaskell and these were shared.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 12th April when we will be discussing ‘Shuggie Bain’ by Douglas Stuart and ‘ The Four Winds’ by Kristin Hannah.
