What’s on in March

The Annual General meeting of the Garstang & District Arts Centre will take place on Wednesday 6th April at 7.30pm.

Art Exhibition

We look forward to welcoming new exhibitor to the Arts Centre, Brent Cousins with his exhibition “A Sketchbook of the Fylde & Wyre Past & Present”.

When he left school Brent studied at Blackpool College of Technology and Art and qualified as a Technical Illustrator.  A career in the Aerospace, Shipbuilding and Product Design industries followed.

Now retired, Brent has rekindled his love of painting and drawing.

The exhibition will open on Tuesday 15th March until Thursday 7th April.

Bridge

Do you fancy a new challenge for the New Year but dont fancy taking on a marathon. Bridge taxes the brain rather than the body. You may have played bridge many years ago or you would like to learn more about it. If so Garstang Arts Centre Bridge Group, which meets every Tuesday afternoon 1.30pm to 4.00pm, would be delighted to see you.

For more experienced bridge players the Garstang Bridge Club now meets, at the Arts Centre, every Monday evening 7.00 pm to 9.30 pm. The beauty of bridge is that whatever your standard of play you will always get pleasure from it.

If you would like more details please ring Bob on 01995 603524.

Book Club

The next Book Club is on Tuesday 8th of March at 10.30.

We enjoy discussing a range of books. At our February meeting we discussed ‘Miss Benson’s Beetle’ by Rachel Joyce . This was read and enjoyed by most of the group even though it was sometimes in the realms of fantasy, but then the feeling was that we all need a bit of fantasy now and again! All the characters were a little bit odd and one remark made was that we probably all know some odd people! We also discussed ‘Between the stops’ by Sandi Toksvig which received mixed reviews’ though some people love her she’s not everyone’s cup of tea!

The recommended books for March are ‘The Familiars’ by Stacy Hall – a tale of witchcraft and power set in Lancashire in the early 1600’s and any book written by Mrs Gaskell.
