What’s on in November

Christmas Craft Fair

Each year the Arts Centre holds a Festive Craft Fair, selling lovely hand made gifts produced by talented local crafters.  A fantastic opportunity to purchase some beautiful unique Christmas gifts.

Starts on Saturday 30th October at 10.00am and ends on Thurdsay 2nd December at 2.30pm.

Art Exhibition

The exhibition of ceramics “Findings” continues until the 11th November.  Inspiration from a community of potters across Lancashire comes from patterns, shapes, texture and rhythm  that nature generously provides.  Covid has also influenced their work and the exhibition provides a selection of items created in response to changed lives during the pandemic.

From the 14th November Pam Turner will exhibit her watercolour, acrylic and mixed media paintings which reflect her enthusiasm for travel and architecture.  She is particularly interested in exploring and experimenting with a variety of styles to best reflect her work.   Pam’s exhibition closes on Thursday 9th December.

Open Art Competition/Exhibition

Entries are now being invited for the ever popular Open Art Competition/Exhibition in January 2022.  Details and entry forms may be found on Garstang Arts Society https://garstangartssociety.org.uk/open-art-competition-exhibition/

Garstang Ukulele Group

After a long hot (not too cold) summer of playing outside, we have resumed our practice indoors on Sunday afternoons. Thank you to all the passers by who slowed down or stopped to listen, and the kids who danced as they passed – it’s been great to play in Garstang.

We welcome both bookings and new players, please see our website for contact details.

As a means of trying to assure safety of our group and of our audiences, we ask all our players to take a lateral flow test prior to practice sessions and gigs. This way we feel it makes it safe for us to remove our masks and sing.

We are so pleased to be back in the Arts Centre rehearsing for our first production since 2019. We have created rehearsal bubbles and it’s starting to feel like the good old days. We are pleased to announce our upcoming show, “all together now”. Dates are:

Friday 12th November, Pilling Village Hall 7.30pm

Saturday 13th November, Scorton Village Hall  7.30pm

Sunday 14th November, Garstang Arts Centre 2pm.

Look out for more on all our social media.

Book Club

At our first meeting in September we decided that in addition to suggesting a recommended book we would also explore other books on the same theme.

The recommended book for October was ‘Plainsong’ by Kent Haruf and the theme was small town America. Most of the group had read the book and it proved to be a very popular choice, though there were different opinions about it! We also discussed ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens, another popular choice and quite a contrast to the recommended book.

For our next meeting on the 9th November the recommended book is ‘The Black House’ by Peter May, a murder mystery on the Isle of Lewis. The theme is Scottish Islands.

Our final meeting of the year on Tuesday 14th December at 10.30 we will be discussing ‘All the Lonely People’ by Mike Gayle.

Garstang Arts Centre – 200 Club

This is a great fundraiser for the Arts Centre and there will be a big double draw later in the year. If you haven’t paid your subs this year, please pop into the Arts Centre and see Hilary. Many subscribers pay by standing order which is great but it is going to become increasingly difficult to pay in cash and cheques when Barclays closes. If there is a volunteer willing to take over the running of the 200 Club next year, please let myself or Hilary know. Thank you.
