“Since returning to the North West to lay down our roots as a family after teaching Art in the South for ten years, the landscapes close to home have become a constant source of inspiration. Family day trips and small adventures – exploring Lancaster, Morecambe Bay, Bowland and beyond have shaped this body of work and mark the continued evolution of my practice. Recent paintings sit alongside works created over the last 12 months or so.
Walking in nature – either alone or with family or friends, is when I feel most connected to the present – grounded in the moment and absorbed by the beauty the surrounds me – changing colours, textures and light through the seasons, ever shifting weather and the impact that the time of day can have on how we experience being in the landscape.
Dramatic skies, fleeting clouds, reflections on water and the quiet stability of trees anchored in the earth continually inspire me. Capturing the atmosphere and *feeling* of these places through paint is at the heart of all that I do, and I hope these paintings resonate with others too – echoing those places, experience and memories we return to again and again.”
