Garstang Ukulele Group
The penultimate month of the year provides a moment to draw breath, take stock and
reflect. There hasn’t been much opportunity for a lot of this as our ukulele group has been
extremely busy throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support, enabling us to
bring our brand of music into the heart of our community.
We have had 34 performances so far this year, which is amazing – garden parties, birthdays,
concerts, care homes, village halls, galas, church fetes and the art centre have all been our
stage; we have also been peripatetic, playing in and around Garstang supporting our town’s
main community events. Wherever an opportunity has presented we have been there
helping to raise people’s spirits, raise money for charity or raise some happy smiles. It is
always our great pleasure to entertain you.
This month gives us the time to refresh our playlists and prepare our Christmas Show. You
can next see us playing at both nights of Garstang’s spectacular Victorian Christmas
Evenings. After that it’s up to you.  So please do get in touch and contact us by email
at mail@trevorphillips.co.uk or call 01995 600378 .

Garstang Poetry Appreciation Group
The Poetry Appreciation Group’s December meeting will be held on Friday 19th at 2.00 pm
in The Garstang Arts Centre. The theme this month will be ‘Festive Poems’. The meeting will
be led by Gary Walmsley.
Non-members are always welcome. You can bring a poem or two to share with the group or
just come along and listen to members reciting a selection of poetry around the theme of
the month.
There is a cover charge of £1, refreshments are provided at the end of each meeting.
If you require further information contact Gary Walmsley 01772 785693

The Book Club
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 2nd December, our Christmas meeting, where has this year
gone!  Again mixed reviews for “Perfect “ some members not bothered to finish it.  Our next
choice I think will be more popular, “And the Mountains Echoed” by Khaled Hosseini.  A
story of love, separation, compassion, exile and the troubled history of Afghanistan,
spanning three continents and sixty years.
At the moment our membership is full but we have a waiting list, so contact either

Ukulele Soup
Meet the band #3 – Anne (overdue fine) Kelsall
By day, Anne used to be the quiet guardian of stories, tending the stacks at the library with a
keen eye and a love for dusty first editions. But when the lights dimmed and the “Silence,
Please” signs came down, she traded her librarian’s cardigan for a flowered ukulele strap.
Anne is one of our lead singers, plays concert ukulele and manages all our bookings. With a
voice that feels like warm Earl Grey tea on a rainy afternoon, she brings to life songs inspired
by everything from Jane Austen to graphic novels.
Her dual worlds of books and music intertwine as every good song, like every good book,
tells a story worth sharing.
Together, Ukulele Soup create a musical recipe laced with comedy; perfect to warm your
heart, please your ear and make you smile.
Influenced by jazz, soft rock and blues classics, and frequently described as “bringing joy”.
Suitable for all your community and private events.

cash on the door (subject to availability of course)
Tickets are priced at £15 each.  We look forward to seeing you at the show!
