Garstang Ukulele Group
As the season begins to change, the evenings may be getting darker and the days cooler but
the warmth of the welcome we receive from our audiences never fails to uplift and
invigorate us.
August has been a very busy month for us, playing in a variety of halls and homes. New
friends have been made and old friends revisited, as we expand the scope of our
performances, bringing a blast of fun and sunshine into people’s lives.
The highlight of our Summer Season was our Country and Western show as part of the Art
Centre’s Summer Festival. What a boot scooting ho-down we and our audience had. It is now ready to take on the road and gives us the opportunity to showcase our versatility,
explore the talent within our group and offer to our audiences a taste of Nashville. We have
loved the response that this show has engendered so far.
We have much to look forward to in the coming months and hope that our path crosses with
yours during this time. If you think that we can add pleasure, fun, laughter and of course
great music to an event or bring some brightness into a gloomy day then please do get in
touch and contact us by email at mail@trevorphillips.co.ukor call 01995600378 .

The Book Club
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 7th October at 10.30am.
Well, our last book sparked of a very lively discussion. I think our next read is very different,
“The Flow” by Amy-Jane Beer. This is a factual book. Amy-Jane’s friend dies while out
kayaking on the River Rawthey leaving her bereft. Years later she returns to the river and
realises how much she has missed the connection to nature and rivers. She then takes us on
a journey of rivers and streams across Britain exploring loss, healing, mythology and history.

Ukulele Soup
Meet the band #1 – Peter “Low Strings” Thomas
Peter, raised in a coastal town, grew up surrounded by the sound of crashing waves and
seagulls squabbling over chips. At 22, stranded in Rarotonga during a storm, he discovered
the baritone ukulele—a mellow instrument that resonated with his introspective nature.
Upon returning to the UK, Peter began performing in underground folk cafés, blending
spoken word with haunting ukulele melodies. In niche circles he became known as “Low
Strings”, a nod to both his instrument and his voice which which rumbles like distant
thunder. Collaborating with ambient producers and indie artists, he became known for
playing in unconventional venues like train stations and old schoolhouses. Peter’s music isn’t
about fame—it’s about evoking emotion and atmosphere, felt deeply by those who
encounter it.
Together, Ukulele Soup create a musical recipe laced with comedy; perfect to warm your
heart, please your ear and make you smile.
Influenced by jazz, soft rock and blues classics, and frequently described as “bringing joy”.
Suitable for all your community and private events.
