August. What a month you have already been!
Some months stand out for many different reasons but this year August is definitely, so far, our month of celebration. It began on the 3rd with the group showcasing our Country and Western show Dress Rehearsal to family and friends. They were a very warm and supportive audience giving us much confidence that our show contained all the right elements of fun, musicality and ukulele magic.
On the 5th we were delighted to have been asked to play at a birthday party at Laurel Bank Care Home, a place we have become extremely fond of. The party was for Karen and thanks to an extremely well chosen set list with our party girl in mind, we had a ball! We all sang, danced and shared a wonderful happy time with Karen, her family and her friends.
Thursday 7th was show-time. It was our turn to step up and perform our Country and Western Show as part of the Arts Centre’s Summer Festival. As I write this I am still tingling from the electric atmosphere. The hall was full to capacity, even spilling out onto the street; expectations were high; our group looked amazing….. and then the music started.
From the first song to the last we played, sang and danced our way through a varied selection of well loved songs. Our audience was amazing, clapping, cheering and singing along with us. Such a warm response brought out the best in us. It was certainly a day we will remember. Thank you Garstang, the Art Centre and everybody who helped turn our show into a real ho-down.

There is a cover charge of £1, refreshments are provided at the end of each meeting.
If you require further information please contact Gary Walmsley 01772 785693.
The Book Club
I’m afraid our last book had a resounding thumbs down, but I have high hopes for our next read, “Blood Orange” a debut novel by Harriet Tyce. Obsession, revenge, lust and murder, what more could you want. Alison is a criminal barrister who drinks too much, neglects her family and is having an affair with a colleague. Someone knows Alison’s secrets though and wants to make her pay. I can’t wait to read this.
Next meeting is on Tuesday 2nd September at 10.30am
