What’s on in May

EXHIBITIONS
You could be forgiven if you think you have wandered into an Artists Studio instead of the Arts Centre during the period 6th to 29th May.  The art students have just left but you may view their work created during the life drawing class which has just ended.  As a subject, the human form presents the artist with the ultimate challenge and is therefore a vital part of all art education.
Come and see a simple celebration of the naked human form.

By the time this Green Book reaches you the draw for the prizes in the 200 Club will have been made on the 26th April and two people will be the lucky recipients of the two top prizes of £200 each!!    Thank you to everyone who supported the 200 Club by taking a number.  This is a great fund raiser for our Arts Centre – the 200 Club has again been able to  transfer £650 into the Arts Centre account after all the prize money had been paid out.

The next draw of the 200 Club will be in the Autumn probably late September.   Many of the tickets for the autumn draw have already been sold.  If you would like a chance to win one of the prizes please contact the Arts Centre or me as soon as possible.  Tickets for the autumn draw only are £6.50 each and there are around 10 left.

Thank you also to every one who supported the Quiz Evening – results will be in next month’s Green Book.

Garstang Wine Circle
Monday 19th May @ 7.30pm.  We will be enjoying a tasting of wines selected and presented by Guy Pugh.  Guy has sourced a number of wonderful wines from both Catalonia and Priorat in Spain.  The Wine Circle enjoyed a fabulous holiday in this region last September and Guy will try and replicate some of those sampled and explain something about the wines and that very interesting and rather special part of Spain.  Visitors are welcome.

Garstang Ukulele Group is proud to be rooted in our Garstang and wider, local community. We are now fully immersed in what we enjoy most – bringing our love of music to as many broad and diverse audiences as we can.
So far this year we have delivered a vintage set for a care home, followed by a lively toe-tapping, even foot- stomping evening set for the very appreciative Tuesday Club at St. Paul’s, Longridge.
Next we are returning to Thistleton to catch up again with our good friends at Littlewood Manor and then you can find us playing in Whitechapel as part of their VE Day celebrations.
There are exciting events ahead of us and as ever we look forward to sharing our love of music with you.
We endeavour at all times to produce bespoke set lists and are always delighted to respond positively to personal requests as these make gigs more fun for audience and players alike.
One thing is certain …. it doesn’t matter how many times you see and hear us, you will never get the same show twice. – Ruth McBride

The Book Club
Last month’s choice was generally given a thumbs down.  This month we are reading “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult.  A newborn baby dies in hospital,  the nurse, who is black, had been banned from looking after the baby by the father, is held responsible. This is about prejudice and power.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday May 6th at 10.30
