GARSTANG ARTS CENTRE
Arts Centre fundraisers
Call My Bluff/200 Club Draw
Saturday, 23rd September (circa 7pm for 7.30pm start) sees a double dose of fun and fundraising at and for the Arts Centre.
The centre is presenting a local version of the popular TV word game “Call my Bluff” in which panellists (and the audience) have to guess the definition of outdated English words after one true and two false definitions have been outlined.
Last time a Call my Bluff fundraiser was held (in 2015) all attending agreed it was a great laugh. It also raised much needed funds for the centre, one of Garstang’s best community assets.
Six local personalities have agreed to be panellists: Sandra Perkins, Andy Stewart, Graciela Lemos, Michael Coleran, and Adrian and Sue Whitaker. Each of them will bring their own area of expertise and etymological enthusiasm.
During the refreshment break, the Arts Centre’s latest 200 Club draw for cash prizes will be held.
Tickets (£5 inc nibbles, tea/coffee, but bring your own stronger drink, glasses provided) available from the Arts Centre or from Market Place News.
200 Club – 23rd September
The next draw of the 200 Club cash prizes is due in on Saturday 23rd September.
The evening will be shared by a staging of Call My Bluff”, of hilarious explanations of many little-known words. In the meantime “you have to be in it to win it” so if you haven’t got your 200 Club ticket yet or maybe would like a few extra chances at winning the £400 top prize, tax free, please contact Carolyn Worthington on 07504148568, by text or whatsapp, by email worthington70@outlook.com, or through the Arts Centre coffee shop.
Numbers are £6.50 each and there are approx only 20 numbers left. More details are on the Arts Centre notice board.
This is open to anyone – you do not have to be a member of the Arts Centre to buy a ticket. 50% of all proceeds go straight to support our wonderful Arts Centre – please help by supporting the 200 Club.
Exhibition
Although we have seen the work of several individual members of Blackburn Artists’
Society, this is the first time they have exhibited as a group.
Formed in 1946 and now with a membership of 55, their aim is to have fun whilst visiting a different venue almost every week of the year to paint in their own individual styles. This leads to
a fascinating variety of paintings that shine through when their work is viewed at exhibitions or on their Facebook page or Instagram account.
The exhibition opens on Tuesday 29th August through to Thursday 21st September.

Garstang Ukulele Group
July has been a month of different opportunities for us. This month has seen smaller groups play in a range of interesting places. Small gigs allow us all to select a bespoke set of songs, unique to the occasion. This was the case when members played at the 300th year celebration of St. Anne’s Church, Great Eccleston, where some vintage songs stole the show. The centenary of Great Eccleston Bowling Club was an opportunity for three of our group to join with three fellow ukulele players to create a “ For One Night Only” group who entertained the bowlers, the Mayor and Lady Mayoress, friends and family. It was a wow!
Other smaller gigs for Friends Together at Elswick and at Dave Slack Allotments, Blackpool gave our audiences the chance to join in, sing along and have a great time – which really is everything to us.
Our motivation and desire is, as ever, to support local groups and charities using our music to entertain you. Whatever your special occasion is get in touch with any member of the group, through our Facebook page, with Trevor Phillips at mail@trevorphillips.co.uk or on 01995600378 and find out just how well we can add some fun to your celebrations.

Ukulele Soup in September
After a busy August we are looking forward to a quieter time in September with just two bookings – we’ll be playing for the United Reform Church’s away day on the 9th and at the Harvest Festival at St Luke’s Church, Winmarleigh on the 17th.
Ukulele Soup are a 7 piece musical group consisting of Andy Stewart, Anne Kelsall and Clare Honeysett on concert ukulele, Andrew Rothwell on tenor ukulele, Peter Thornton on concert and baritone ukulele, Paul King on baritone ukulele and Bob Sapey on u-bass.
The band (originally called The Caretaker) formed in the autumn of 2021. We combine humour and music to entertain and amuse our audiences.

For September, our next library book is ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ by Bonnie Garmus.
