Happy New year to all
We had a busy December with 8 gigs, that’s about a quarter of all our performances last year in one month. And of course they all involved Xmas songs which has left us feeling a bit like we were stuck in a shopping centre with the background music on repeat.
We’ve got a few gigs lined up for 2023, but we would like loads more so if you are looking for some musical entertainment, we are available.
We sometimes play for free if it’s for a good cause, but generally people pay us about £50 which goes towards supporting the group and the Arts Centre.
If you want to book us contact me on 07985 713961.
We return to our regular practice on the afternoon of Sunday 8th January and newcomers are very welcome.

The Book Club wishes you a Happy New Year
At our December meeting Robert Harris definitely emerged as a favourite author, several people had read his latest book ‘Act of Oblivion’ set in the reign of Charles l l, but there were also plenty of his other works we went on to discuss.
John Grisham was our next author, his book ‘The Painted House’ was very well received by those who had read it. It was a different genre to the usual Grisham but it was felt that this emphasised his skill as an author.
Our Third book ‘The Shadow of the Wind’ by Carlos Ruiz Zafon got mixed reviews! Set in Barcelona and translated from Spanish, the number of characters with similar names put some people off! However others loved it, especially the mystery and the beautiful imagery.
Three books were selected for Christmas reading :
1. The Seal Woman’s Gift by Sally Magnussen. Set in 1627, when pirates make a raid on the coast of Iceland capturing 400 people and selling them as slaves in Algiers. It follows the story of one woman.
2. Longbourn by Jo Baker. This is a tale of romance, loyalty, poverty and independence set in the Austen era and told from the servants point of view.
3. A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towels. An American author, he tells the story of Count Alexander Rostov who was imprisoned for his part in the 1917 Bolshevik revolution. Under house arrest in the Metropol Hotel in Moscow, the novel tells the story of his life there.
The next meeting is on 10th January at 10.30.
