EXHIBITION
Our last exhibitor this year at the Arts Centre is local artist Emma Underwood.
Emma’s primary medium is watercolour and she uses her contemporary style to create beautiful imagery of wild life, nature and portraits. Using vibrant and bright colours, Emma achieves dramatic and eye-catching effects by building layers of paint over a period of time.
She will also be premiering a small series of paintings based on old family photo albums and offers a commission based service to bring your old and cherished family photos to life with a unique and contemporary edge.
The exhibition runs from Tuesday 22nd Nov. to Thursday 15th Dec.

Garstang Ukulele Group
Hooray, it’s Xmas songs on the set list this month. We’ve been rehearsing for a few weeks now so hopefully we’ll be pitch perfect if you hear us.
We held our first beginner’s workshop in November, run by members of the group. This was a challenge as we’re teaching from experience rather than training, but it went very well and a few of the participants have since joined our group.
We have a couple of bookings for December 2023, but nothing else yet, so if you would like an hour of live music with a tough of madness thrown in.

THE BOOK CLUB
Following the November meeting three books, all thrillers, were suggested for the next month.
These are; ‘Act of Oblivion‘ by Robert Harris. An historical thriller set in the time of Charles 1
‘The Shadow of the Wind’ by Carlos Ruiz Zafon which is set in post war Barcelona. It’s a coming of age book of a young boy and a search for a missing author whose books have been destroyed. Known as a modern classic and part of The Cemetery of Forgotten Books Series. However following comments during the meeting about books with many characters it may be useful to keep a log of them as they appear!
Our final choice was ‘A Painted House’ by John Grisham, set in the 1950’s in Arkansas.
If books are difficult to access the suggestion is that you could read others by the same author.
The next meeting is on December 13th. As it’s our Christmas meeting we will be having mulled wine with mince pies/ shortbread or ginger biscuits.

SONGBIRDS
We are a very friendly group who just enjoy singing for pleasure, not a choir and no auditions. We have been established now over 10 years and still going strong.
There are probably quite a few ladies out there who might have recently moved into the area and aren’t aware of us.
We meet every Monday afternoon from 1.30 to 3.30p.m. and simply love to sing.
Our programme is very varied but the main thing is having a relaxed afternoon meeting new friends through the joy of singing. It is very much felt that to share music and singing is so good for the soul and mental well being.
Therefore any ladies out there who would like to be part of this group ,don’t be shy, just come along to the Art Centre which is situated on the corner of Lancaster Road and Croston Road directly opposite the new Apartment block and Car Park.
You will be guaranteed a warm welcome, oh and the necessary brew and a natter.
There are many other interesting groups which meet at the Art Centre, knitting, sewing, card making, and many others. The cafe is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays and you can find out all the details of what is happening in a very thriving Art and Community hub.
